Description

The PAI 740231 is an aftermarket oil temperature sensor for Freightliner engine and transmission service positions, replacing Freightliner 06-23464-000. It uses a 1/2″-14 NPT (with sealant) thread and a 2-pin oval connector — the standard Freightliner harness shared by the engine oil temp and transmission oil temp circuits on Cummins ISX/ISM, Detroit DD13/DD15/DD16, and Eaton/Allison transmissions sourced through Freightliner.

Signs You Need a New Oil Temperature Sensor

  • Implausible oil-temp reading (pinned high, pinned low, or stuck on a single value)
  • Active fault code for engine or transmission oil temperature circuit
  • Open or short circuit when the sensor is bench-tested for resistance vs. temperature
  • Temp-related derate or check-engine illumination after a cooling-system service

Applications

Fits Freightliner trucks using the 06-23464-000 sensor for engine or transmission oil temperature reporting:

  • Freightliner Cascadia, Columbia, Century, Coronado, FLD, Business Class M2
  • Engine oil temp position on Detroit DD13 / DD15 / DD16 and Cummins ISX / ISM where Freightliner specifies 06-23464-000
  • Transmission oil temp position on Eaton / Allison transmissions sourced through Freightliner using the 06-23464-000 sensor

This sensor is used in both engine-oil and transmission-oil-temp positions on Freightliner trucks. Confirm the part number stamped on the sensor you are replacing and the harness pinout before ordering — Freightliner uses several similar 2-pin oval temperature sensors with different resistance curves and threads.
