The definitive midi-lathe, Laguna’s REVO 12|16 encapsulates the prestige of Laguna in a small package. It features a Pulse Width Modulation (PMW) system that maintains consistent torque at any speed; easy, one-step cam-action belt changes; and a luxury banjo with a 45 degree chamfered edge.
The 1216 controls its 1 HP DC motor using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), so it can run as slow as 50 rpm and still deliver full torque. A problem with some DC motor controls is torque loss at low speeds, and many MIDI lathes feature a low speed of 250 RPM or higher. This is because cost-effective controllers introduce resistance into the voltage to limit the power, which reduces the speed but also reduces the torque at the same rate. PWM delivers full torque across the entire speed range. This allows for tremendous torque at low speeds which is helpful when roughing and precision work. This also allows for outboard turning up to a 16″ bowl on a mid-sized lathe.
