Quality replacement brake shoe kit for Eaton ES-II foundation brakes. The HD Value HDV4709E220S is a new shoe and new riveted lining set to FMSI 4709E2, sized 16-1/2 by 7 in and rated for 20,000 lb GAWR. It ships as two shoes with hardware, covering one wheel end, and requires no core.
Signs You Need New Brake Shoes
- Lining worn to or below 1/4 in at the thinnest point, which is the FMVSS 393.47 out-of-service threshold
- Lining cracked through to the shoe table, or a chunk of friction material missing
- Rivets flush with or below the friction surface
- Grease or oil contamination on the lining from a failed wheel seal
- Heat-checked or blued shoe table, or a crack at the shoe web
- Uneven wear side to side, which usually points to a seized cam or a failed slack adjuster

Verify your brake family before ordering. FMSI 4709 is Eaton ES-II and FMSI 4707 is Meritor Q Plus — both are 16-1/2 by 7 in and look similar, but the anchor pin and roller geometry differ and they are NOT interchangeable. Replace shoes in axle sets and inspect the drum, cam bushings, rollers and anchor pins at the same time.
