How to Measure a Five Hole Trailer Bolt Circle
A bolt circle (also called bolt pattern) is an imaginary circle that passes through the center of all the wheel studs. The diameter of this imaginary circle determines your bolt circle size.
For a five-lug pattern, you can easily measure it by taking the distance from the center of one stud hole to the center of the next (adjacent) stud hole. This measurement is commonly referred to as dimension A.
Common 5-Lug Measurements:
- If A = 2 5/8″ → 5 on 4.5″ Bolt Circle
- If A = 2 3/4″ → 5 on 4.75″ Bolt Circle
- If A = 3″ → 5 on 5″ Bolt Circle
- If A = 3 1/4″ → 5 on 5.5″ Bolt Circle
Pro Tip: Use a tape measure or digital caliper for the most accurate reading. Measure directly from the center of one stud hole to the center of the neighboring stud hole. This simple method gives you the correct bolt circle every time.
